Vision, Mission & Values
Vision
Pre-K through 12 public schools promote self-actualization of each and every student to the betterment of the communities in which we live and work. Systemic race-ism, able-ism, poverty-ism, gender-ism, sexism, age-ism, and class-ism is eradicated throughout.

Mission
SAGE was formed in response to centuries of discriminatory educational practices, to the creation of “normalcy” and its byproduct, “the other.” The concept of the normal child led to the concept of the dis/abled child. SAGE knows that both are myths. Each child is different and unique and should be respected throughout their education and supported toward their self-actualization.
SAGE engages with the students, family members, school personnel, and any youths and adults involved in the student’s life. SAGE educates this expansive village in an ongoing mindful practice of celebrating and valuing each student’s uniqueness. SAGE supports this village toward student empowerment through advocacy training, the Strength-Based Learning Plan, and other resources.
SAGE promotes changes to practices and policies so that village members focus on helping individual students find their strengths and gifts rather than defining students by the systems that educate them. The current standardized systems give students only a very limited definition of success. SAGE proposes that individual students define success on their own terms, and create a great education based on their gifts and passions and leading to a lifetime of engaged self-sufficiency.
